Rules

Action Points

Action points follow the rules outlined in SRD portions of Unearthed Arcana, but with several minor exceptions.

  • Action points are granted per session.

  • When using an action point to gain a feat, that feat must be listed in the SRD.

  • An action point can be used to grant advantage on the next roll or to negate disadvantange.

Banned feats, spells, and effects

  • Item Familiar, Leadership, and Vow of Poverty

  • Spells or powers that are similar to polymorph or wild shape are banned.

Critical Failure

Once per round, if you have a confirmed fumble (natural 1) before you have had a successful attack in a round, you draw an effect from the critical failure deck.

Critical Success

Once per round, if you have a confirmed critical hit before you have had an attack miss in a round, you draw an effect from the critical success deck.

Effects of Having No Astral, Ethereal, Inner or Outer Planes

  • Spells/powers that rely on the astral plane don’t exist (e.g. astral projection, summon monster).

    Well, it is rumored that a tainted variant of Summon Monster can call creatures from the Outside. But those are just rumors… right?

  • Ectoplam is now derived from the Material World instead of the Astral plane. Psionic powers which manipulate ectoplasm work as normal.

  • No extra-dimensional storage (i.e no bag of holding, no handy haversack, etc). Bring a mule.

  • Conjuration(Teleportation) spells instead work through the Shadow Realm and are limited to line of sight.

  • Teleport and Greater Teleport behave as Greater Dimension Door

  • Most spells that rely on the ethereal plane don’t exist (e.g. chamber, Leomund’s secret chest, ether blast).

  • Ethereal Jaunt is replaced by Spirit Jaunt, which uses the Spirit World, but is otherwise identical.

  • The Ninja’s Ghost Step and related abilities use the Shadow Realm

  • Blink works by hopping back and forth between the Spirit World and Material Planes (and thus cannot be used in the Shadow Realm).

  • Special Mounts are summoned from the either the Spirit World or the Shadow Realm.

Flight

A player can fly only if they begin and end their turn touching the ground. Flying mounts are banned. For this rule, airwalk and similar spells count as flight.

If a player manages to start their turn flying, they are paralyzed until they touch the ground.

Psionics-Magic Transparency

Powers interact with spells and spells interact with powers in the same way a spell or normal spell-like ability interacts with another spell or spell-like ability.

  • Autohypnosis
    As described in the d20 srd

  • Concentration
    Synergy: If you have 5 or more ranks in Concentration, you get a +2 bonus on Autohypnosis checks.

  • Craft
    see Crafting

  • Knowledge (Psionics)
    Unused: Checks replaced with Knowledge (arcana)

  • Psicraft
    Unused: Checks replaced with Spellcraft

  • Use Psionic Device
    Unused: Checks replaced with Use Magic Device
