Class Features

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Arcanists are proficient with all simple and martial weapons and light armor.

Spells: A arcanist casts arcane spells (the same type of spells available to wizards), which are drawn from bard, sorcerer, wizard, and wu gen spell lists. She can cast any spell she knows without preparing it ahead of time the way a wizard must.

To cast a spell, a arcanist must have a Intelligence score of 10 + the spell’s level (Int 10 for 0-level spells, Int 11 for 1st-level spells, and so forth). The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against a arcanist’s spell is 10 + the spell’s level + the arcanist’s Intelligence modifier.

Like other spellcasters, a arcanist can cast only a certain number of spells of each spell level per day. Her base daily spell allotment is given on table above. In addition, she receives bonus spells for a high Intelligence.

Unlike a wizard, a arcanist’s selection of spells is limited. A arcanist begins play knowing three 0-level spells. At each new arcanist level, she gains one or more new spells, as indicated on table above. (Unlike spells per day, her Intelligence score does not affect the number of spells a arcanist knows).

A arcanist need not prepare spells in advance. They can cast any spell she know at any time, assuming they have not yet used up their spells per day for that spell level.

A arcanist’s caster level is equivalent to one-half their class level (minimum 1).

They can cast known cantrips at will, thought cantrips which heal a target (e.g. cure minor wound) can only be cast on the same target once an hour.

Armored Mage (Ex): Normally, armor of any type interferes with an arcane spellcaster’s gestures, which can cause his spells to fail (if those spells have somatic components). A arcanist’s limited focus and specialized training, however, allows him to avoid arcane spell failure as long as he sticks to light armor and light shields. This training does not extend to medium or heavier armors, nor to heavy shields. Nor does this ability apply to spells gained from a different spellcasting class.

Retrain Spell: Arcanists can retrain a known spell with a week of meditation and study. The spell must be in their spellbook, and they must spend at least 8 hours each day studying the spell they want to learn. At the end of the week the they replace a known spell with the new spell.

Scribe Scroll: At the 1st level, you gain Scribe Scroll as a bonus feat.

Spellbook: Arcanist can add spells to their spellbooks like wizards. Their spellbooks start empty and are used to retrain known spells.

Summon Familiar A arcanist can obtain a familiar in exactly the same manner as a wizard.

Bonus Feat At 5th, 10th, 15th, and 20th level, an arcanist gains a bonus feat.
