The Faithful

Also known as The Supreme, the All-Father and The Ever-Vigilant, the Guardian of the Faithful is the sole deity worshipped in the Hard Lands, save the blasphemous creatures known as the Old Gods. Worship of the Guardian of the Faithful is the default in “civilized lands” and deviation from this faith is viewed with suspicion. The Temple (the earthly representatives of the Faith) has a strict hierarchy of how people are viewed, based on their religion. Exactly how the Temple is organized depends on the country.

  • The Dedicated - The Dedicated have been formally dedicated to the service of the Guardian in a public ceremony. Most members of the nobility and some members of the merchant and artisan classes are Dedicated. Since dedication requires some amount of study (and literacy), the peasant classes are almost never Dedicated. Membership in the Dedicated can be revoked by the Temple for acts of heresy, diabolism or flagrant disobedience of the Temple edicts.

  • The Faithful - The vast majority of worshippers of the Guardian of the Faithful.

  • Heretics - People who still profess to follow the Guardian, but have adulterated the faith via the addition of nature or ancestor worship

  • Heathens - People who practice nature or ancestor worship and have never followed the way of the Guardian.

  • Apostates - People who have taken a public act to renounce the faith. Members of the Temple’s military kill apostates on sight.

  • Diabolists - People who worship the Old Gods. All members of the faithful are required to expose and/or slay diabolists.

The phrase “Members of the Faithful” refers to the first three categories.
